Windows 11 has no notch.
Now it does.

A slim pill at the top of your screen shows what's playing, your system stats and your coding agents. Hover it and it opens into a panel with everything else.

The pill shows what matters right now. The panel holds the rest. Turn off what you don't use: a feature that is off is never loaded.

Know the moment an agent needs you.

Every Claude Code session shows up in the pill and the Agents tab: working, needs you or done. When one stops to ask, the pill widens for a moment and plays a soft sound. You also see the tokens each one used today, and the dev servers it left running, each with a Stop button.

Game on. Notch off.

When a game or fullscreen video runs, the notch shrinks to one quiet line of status. No hover, no pop-ups, clicks go straight through.

Your AI apps, on two keys.

Launch them with Alt 1 to 6, and see your Claude Code and Codex usage limits.

And the small things you reach for all day.

Drag the pill sideways to get it out of the way of your tabs, and it remembers the spot for each app. Drag cards to rearrange the Home grid. Copy your whole setup as one line of text and paste it on another PC.

Hotkeys

Every shortcut works from any app, and you can change them in Settings, Hotkeys. They work on the demo above too.

A feature is a folder.

QNotch is a small shell and fifteen extensions. Each one lives in its own folder and plugs into five slots. Read every line, change what you don't like, or add the thing you wish it did.

Off means off.

Every extension has a switch in Settings, Features. One that is off is never constructed: no timers, no hooks, no memory. Try it.

From idea to merged.

  1. 1Open an issue

Say what it does and where it shows: a card, a tab, the pill or the game bar. Space is limited, so agree on that first.

  2. 2Build in your folder

Everything lives in Modules/<Name>/. One line in ModuleList.cs is the only change outside it.

  3. 3Snapshot it

QNotch.exe --snapshot renders every tab and settings page to PNG. CI builds and snapshots every pull request.

  4. 4Send the pull request

Attach the PNGs and your idle CPU and memory numbers. The performance rules are hard limits.

No C# needed.

Anything that can run a program can talk to the notch. Post from a build script, a hook or a cron job, add buttons, and read back which one was clicked.

Stays on your PC.

QNotch shows you your own machine. Apart from the two things below, nothing leaves it, and the code is there to check.

  • No account, no cloud.

Settings, notes and logs live in %APPDATA%\QNotch on your PC.

  • Secrets stay secret.

Tokens go in Windows Credential Manager, never in a file.

  • Clipboard in memory.

History is kept in memory unless you choose to keep it.

  • Online for two things.

Your GitHub graph once you add a token, and Claude Code usage limits. Both are in Settings, and both can be turned off.

Questions

Good to know.

Anything else? Ask on GitHub.

Is it really free?

Yes. QNotch is MIT licensed: no account, no subscription, no trial. The whole source is on GitHub.

Windows says "Windows protected your PC". Is that normal?

The exe is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen does not know it. Click More info, then Run anyway. Or build it yourself from source with the .NET 10 SDK.

Which download do I need?

QNotch-self-contained.zip (80 MB) runs as is. QNotch.exe (27 MB) is smaller but needs the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime.

Does it work on Windows 10?

Yes. It needs Windows 10 version 2004 or newer, on x64.

Will it get in the way of my games?

No. When a game or fullscreen video is in front, Game mode shrinks the notch to one line of status, turns off hover and lets clicks pass straight through. Ctrl+Alt+G cycles Auto, On and Off.

How does the Agents tab know what Claude Code is doing?

One click in Settings, Agents adds a hook to Claude Code's settings.json, with a backup. The hook talks to QNotch over a local pipe. Token counts come from the transcripts Claude Code already keeps on your PC.

Is the cost what I am billed?

It is what those tokens would cost at API list prices. A Pro or Max plan is not billed per token, so think of it as a gauge.

Can I put it on my other monitor?

Yes. Pick the monitor in Settings, General. It follows DPI changes without a restart.

How do I add a feature of my own?

Open an issue with a sentence on what it does and where it shows, then build it in its own folder under src/QNotch/Modules. The contributing guide walks through it.
